This is a photography assignment I had to complete for class. The theme we were supposed to follow was “Occupations”. I chose pet sellers, because I thought it would be really interesting to look at the relation these guys have with the animals they keep. And if that didn’t really work out as planned, oh well, at least I have photographs of adorable animals! Should appeal to the professor, right?
It was definitely sad to see how a lot of the animals were kept and handled. Unfortunately, love and affection didn’t seem to hold much weight in this world. This world of strong smells and flying feathers and squawks and woofs. But there were also those who treated their animals as if they were family. I tried to capture that.
The project did pretty well, I’m glad to say.
I went to the all encompassing Crawford Market to take these. This place is always teeming with interesting stories and shiny new things and fascinating people.
Good times.
